"Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise… Therefore, we have so many hymns and Psalms where message and music join to move the listener’s soul, while in other living beings and [sounding] bodies music remains a language without words.”
                                                                                                 - Martin Luther

At Hope we value a wide musical heritage. The congregation enjoys singing hymns and chorales that date back five hundred years and more… and at the same time embraces the fresh and the contemporary. On any given Sunday morning we may sing a chorale written by Luther and arranged by Bach, accompanied by our majestic pipe organ, an African chorus undergirded by djembe drums, an old-time country gospel tune with piano, bass and guitar, or a contemporary Latin American song with a lively rhythm.

Our pipe organ was designed and built by Adrian Koppejan from Chilliwack, B.C. specifically for our Sanctuary. It was added to the worship space in 1985 and is valued by musicians around the city for its beautiful sound. Called “a gem” by the Calgary International Organ Festival, our organ has been included in organ crawls and concerts to showcase the versatility of the pipe organ.

Additionally, our six-foot Yamaha concert grand piano regularly accompanies worship, and supports recitals and concerts. Two choirs rehearse at Hope and contribute frequently to worship. And on special occasions our handbell choir offers the gift of music. Our worship space is enhanced by a state-of-the-art sound system, with hearing-assist equipment for those who need it.

Our space is prized for its vibrant acoustics, and used by community groups and choirs, and student recitals. Book your special musical event with us!
