Blessing of the Animals

Francis of Assisi is commemorated on October 4. Because he had a special place in his heart for animals of every kind, many Christians have followed his lead and blessed the animals in their lives around this time of year. For many of us, animals are part of our families; dogs, cats, birds, even fish and reptiles—all keep us company and give us joy in our lives.
On October 3, at a special evening service, we will have the opportunity to give thanks to God for our animal friends. You are welcome to bring your pet for a laying on of hands, or a picture if the trip would be too stressful. This is also a time for remembering animals who are no longer with us. The service will be fairly brief, and outdoors, weather permitting.
