Kids can make a difference!  At Hope Lutheran in Calgary we encourage our younger members to do just that!

(The following letter was submitted by Sarah B. (age 10) to explain what she and her Sunday School friends have been up to).

At Christmas last year I was lucky to get a lot of presents from my friends and family. While we were opening them and playing with them my family talked about how lucky we are here in Canada and in our house to have such an abundance of gifts.

We then read the passages in the bible about the birth of Jesus and talked about what Christmas is truelly about, the gift of God's son to us and how he changed our lives.

After this conversation I felt sad for all the people around the world that did not get such presents at Christmas. That they did not even have life necessities like clean water to drink. Then when we were at church on Sunday we found a pamphlet for CLWR and the gifts from the heart. I read through it and found the gift of a well and learned about providing clean water. I decided that I wanted to raise money to buy a well for a village.

Over the next few months I talked with my pastor and my Sunday school teacher and we created the "Well-ness" project. Our goal was to raise $1,900 to buy a well through CLWR. Over the month of May my Sunday school drew a big well and made little buckets for our bulletin board to show progress of donations. Every Sunday we asked the congregation to help us in our project buy giving through the contributions or after service to me.  And with the help of the congregation and Sunday school we did it!! We raised the $1,900 in one month.

Together we were able to help the well-being of others!
