Deborah Leung

Dr. WaiKing (Deborah) Leung (She/Her) joins Hope Lutheran Church as our new Manager of Parish Operations. Deborah and her husband moved to Calgary in 2024 with their six furry family members, following a strong sense of God’s calling. Since then, she has served in several roles — including Housekeeper and Front Desk staff in a senior residence, Sessional Lecturer at University of Lethbridge, and most recently Children and Youth Ministry Director at Calgary Unity Lutheran Mission.

Before coming to Canada, Deborah spent nearly 17 years in higher education in Hong Kong, progressing from Lecturer to Program Leader, Assistant Professor, and Assistant Dean. In these roles she oversaw multi-campus operations, led academic programs, supported accreditation and quality assurance, and built systems that helped teams and students thrive.

Deborah holds a Doctor of Business Administration, a Master’s in Global Business Management, and a Bachelor’s in Business Studies, and is currently pursuing her Master of Divinity as part of her long term ministry formation. She is also a Chartered Marketer, trained mediator, and Alberta certified Early Childhood Educator (Level 1).

Fluent in Cantonese and English (with elementary Putonghua), Deborah brings lived multicultural experience and a heart for bridging cultures — gifts that will support Hope as we welcome Unity’s Chinese Ministry and continue growing as a diverse, intergenerational community.

Deborah describes her leadership as relational, collaborative, and grounded in compassion and clarity. She is passionate about building healthy teams, strengthening operational systems, and creating welcoming spaces where people feel they belong. Above all, she is grateful for the opportunity to serve Hope in this season of renewal and looks forward to walking with the congregation into the future God is shaping for us.
